Only process admins, project admins, and task admins can make changes to the start date and due date of a task.
Setting a start date and due date for a newly created task has a few benefits in Midaxo:
- You can visualize your project plan using a Gantt chart.
- You can see scheduling dependencies in the Gantt chart.
- Task owners get reminders for tasks that are due in the upcoming week (see details in What are action items and weekly e-mail notifications?).
How to set and change a task’s start date and due date
In the TASKS view, click the “Set duration” link underneath the task status icon:
A pop-up with calendar controls will appear. If your task has both a start date and a due date, click on the two dates, in either order, to set the schedule for the task. If your task has only a due date, click on that date only. The Gantt chart will be updated accordingly.
Alternatively, in the SCHEDULE tab of the TASKS view, hover your mouse over the task’s calendar. A small icon will appear for you to draw the Gantt bar. Click and drag from the start date to the due date. The selected dates will also be displayed on the Gantt chart. Don't worry if the dates are not exact, since you can always edit them after you have set them.
When drawing a Gantt bar, the start date and due date will snap to the visible grid. In the Week view, newly drawn Gantt bars will start at the beginning of the week and end at the end of the week. In the Month view, you can draw Gantt bars that start and end at the beginning of a month, or in its middle.
How to change a task’s start date and due date
In the TASKS view click the due date under the task status icon and set the new start and end date from the calendar selector.
Alternatively, in the SCHEDULE tab of the TASKS view, hover on the Gantt bar to reveal its toolbar, and click on the Calendar icon. The same calendar pop-up shown above will appear, from which you can change the task schedule.
Important: When you change the start date of a task, the schedules for all its sub-tasks are shifted accordingly (i.e., their start dates move by the same numbers of days forward or backward). If you instead want to change only the schedule of the parent task without shifting the start dates of its subtasks, first remove the start date from the parent task, save it, and then add the new start date to it.
How to track changes of a task’s start and due dates
All manual changes to a task’s schedule are recorded in the project and task history (in the Activity tab). To trace schedule changes propagated from a parent task, check the Activity feed of parent tasks up the task hierarchy as well.
You can also visualize the changes in the SCHEDULE view.
In the Schedule view, select the “Track Changes” button on the Task toolbar. The previous schedule will be gray with a dashed border on the Gantt bar:
To clear the history of changes to a task, hover over the Gantt bar to reveal the menu and click the “Clear History” button:
How to clear the task schedule
Hover over the Gantt bar you want to remove. On the Gantt bar menu, click the delete button (“X” button).
